What is a great wedding? I keep telling customers that people will remember three things when they attend a wedding.
1. Food - not what they eat, but how good or bad it is
Your clothes - the kind of vision you wear will be in their minds
3. Entertainment - Have they had a good time and stayed until dinner or shortly after dinner?
The reception hall can be decorated like a wedding magazine, and the flowers and your clothes can be breathtaking. You can hire the best wedding photographer, your menu may be a "foodie" dream come true, but if your wedding entertainment show is missing - your guests will not be involved and your party may fail.
Every year, we work with some of the best wedding planners in the region [custom wedding lighting design], and customers choose to slap their DJs. Maybe it is a friend of this family, or a DJ in a local bar. Every time these couples are not aware of what they are doing until it is too late and their wedding is less than they expected.
Here are some simple things to keep in mind when looking for weddings and entertainment.
1. Ceremony Master: You should be able to see a video or hear a recording of your potential DJ's recording introduction and see if this is the sound you want to announce at all special moments. Wrong pronunciation, sly words or tacky DJ / radio announcer sounds - this is a quick way to rule out "Weekend Warriors" DJ or "Club DJ" without enough wedding experience. On your wedding day, playing music is just a small part of what your ritual master will do for you. They keep the party's pace. They coordinate all the behind-the-scenes things, such as making sure your parents are in the room and your photographer is ready. They even dine too long when the guests dance. For the overall success of your reception, a great MC deserves their gold weight.
2. Gear: Is your cocktail time out? Do you have a fire pit and plan to use it at night? Then you might want a DJ with wireless speaker capability [the main system transmits audio to a remote speaker located outdoors or in a separate room for facilities with multiple rooms]. Have more than 100 guests? Your DJ should bring the right size sound system for your venue and number of guests. This means that more than one pair of speakers is needed on the stand. [subwoofer or multiple pairs of speakers]. Ceremony scene? Your potential DJ should have a completely separate system for this purpose, so they won't move gear through your guests during social time - try to reset the gear as part of their main system.
3. Reputation: Is their website up to date? Do they have a recent wedding blog post or social media post? Do they respond to your calls and emails in a timely manner? Do they have recent independent third-party verification comments [during the day]? [knot, marriage line]
For a five-hour service, DJ prices can range from a few hundred dollars to more than $2,000. I believe DJ knows their value and prices themselves accordingly. So, don't expect the $500 Craigslist DJ to give you the same results as the $2,000 full-time wedding DJ. You will know the difference. Your guests will hear the difference. Choose your wedding entertainment wisely. A great DJ will let your guests participate and be on the dance floor. A bad DJ can scare off your guests within 30 minutes of the end of the dinner. Who wants to be at their wedding?
