Useful Pest Control Tips You Can Start Using Today

You need more advice on how to control pests in your home. Well, you're about to get some. And you need to keep on learning as well. There is no need to let your whole pest problem be handled by other people. It's your home, so you take control too!

Do not expect to get rid of pests by keeping your home clean. It is a myth that you can starve out pests. Many pests can eat things that you would not consider food, like paper or glue. The only way to get rid of pests is to address the problem directly.

Make sure that you do not have any candy lying around the area of your home. Candy is made of sugar, which can attract a wide assortment of bugs. Therefore, the best thing that you can do is eat in the kitchen and make sure that candy does not get into other areas of the house.

If you are dealing with a stink bug invasion, try to minimize your use of outdoor lights. These pests are drawn to the brightness, so they will move closer to your house when the lights are on, giving them more opportunities to find their way in. Furthermore, draw your blinds in the evening so the light from inside your home does not attract them.

Keep in mind that pests are not fond of the same air you are. Your home might not have been designed for proper ventilation in crawl spaces and the attic. However, these spaces need sufficient ventilation so that the environments within them are not suitable to pests who might come in.

Keep sweet smelling food products in sealed containers or in the fridge. Sweet foods can easily attract a vast variety of pests, from rodents to ants. If you do not have enough containers to seal your sugar, cereal and breads you should invest in them. It will cost you a lot less than paying an exterminator.

Mice enjoy eating grains and cereal. This is something you have to make sure you don't leave lying around in your kitchen. Mice will sink their teeth into almost anything! If having mice in the home is common for you, remove the food supply and place them in high cabinets and use sealed containers. They have a fantastic sense of smell, so don't underestimate these little critters.

Do you have ants in your home? Get rid of these insects by mixing some borax and sugar. Pour this concoction on your doorstep and all around your home. If you know where the ants come from, pour a generous quantity of borax and sugar in these areas. The ants will be drawn by the sugar but the borax will kill them.

It can be awfully hard to eliminate fleas, but there are a few good tips to help you get rid of both the fleas and their eggs. First, you should vacuum every single day. Once you do this, use a flea spray. Always toss out your vacuum bag once you are finished cleaning your living space.

If you have a lot of debris and overgrown plants in your yard, you are inviting pests into your home. Litter, debris, overgrown plants, and trash are all great habitats for pests. If these pests are right outside your door, it will take no time before they are inside your home and becoming a problem.

Put your pet's food and water away at night. Pet food is a great meal for most insects and rodents. Having water next to it will only give them something to wet their mouth with. Putting the food and water away will not get rid of the pests, but it will at least reduce where they can get food from.

Is your home invaded by rodents? You need to look at your home's exterior for small openings that animals can squeeze through. Fill those cracks using scouring pads or by placing poison inside them. In a few cases you can use odor repellents like mustard oil.

If you have many mosquitoes in your yard, and possibly even infiltrating your home, try to eliminate any standing water. If there is a high population of mosquitoes on your property, they are breeding somewhere, and they can only breed in standing water. Dump anything that collects rainwater, dump kid pools and do whatever you can to eliminate breeding grounds.

Try using hairspray to kill any flying insects. Although hairspray will kill flying insects, it is safe for others in your home. Hairspray sticks to bugs and disables them. This is a good option for insects you don't want to get close to.

Vacuum your carpet often if you are having a flea problem. Fleas will begin to live in your carpet if there is not enough room for them on your pets. To help to keep their population low you should vacuum your floors a couple times a day and dispose of the bag immediately.

Store blankets, sweaters, quilts and other bedding and garments in chests lined with cedar. The natural resin of cedar wood repels moths and other pests without harming fabrics. You can also use cedar hangers in your closet or place small planks of cedar in your drawers or storage containers for the same effect.

When you've got flying bugs inside, try using hairspray. If you don't have hairspray available, try perfume. Perfume and hairspray are flammable, so keep them away from fire. Use this as a good quick fix when you're without any bug spray.

If you discover wood damage that you believe comes from termites, make sure you check out the wood's annual rings. If the rings have been affected, then termites are not damaging the wood. That's because termites will not consume the rings of the wood. Instead, they consume the soft parts. If they are neglected, you may have a termite infestation.

Do you feel like you can take a proactive stance when it comes to the pests in your home now? Go ahead and start implementing the advice you've read, and you will notice how much of an improvement it brings. Continue to learn, and you will take back your home.
