I have already mentioned this in my past articles. Now there are Alexa, Siri and Google built-in Smart speakers, I think I will give you some advice on how to protect and protect yourself.
It's important to realize that all smart devices must pass some type of router before reaching your device. Then the router allows you to connect via hardwire or Wi-Fi. Hardwires are faster and safer; however, Wi-Fi is easier to find in more devices. In either case, make sure your router has a strong password that you create. Make sure you have the highest level of security for Wi-Fi, such as WPA / WPA2. Also, if your router is more than 5 years old, you should consider replacing it with a new modern router. This will ensure that you are using the latest hardware and software security.
Smart speakers appear in homes around the world and are the best-selling products of Amazon during Christmas. They are good at playing your favorite music and can always get better with your commands. They can control your alarm system and lock and unlock your front door. Before you allow Alexa, Siri or Google to unlock the front door, please ask yourself how safe you are. Can they distinguish your voice by the voice of strangers? What if you leave your house and a stranger comes to your front door and says "Unlock the door" will unlock? Speech recognition is getting better every day, so test your device before trusting.
Does Smart TV track your viewings? The answer is yes, they can. I wrote another article explaining how they did it and, more importantly, how to stop it.
Do you have a camera at home? Many of us do this. Ask yourself if they are safe and how to prevent them from being taken over by some smart actors. This may put you in a very embarrassing situation.
Be sure to carefully investigate each new smart device you purchase to determine how it works and what data is collected about you. Then protect the device in the home network. If you are not sure if a particular device is disconnecting it from your home network. Remember that most devices in your home must be protected by your router!
