There are various internet laws; good, bad, and some are just weird. These strange but real Internet laws are what we are paying attention to today. These three laws come from all over the world and really make you marvel at the sheer madness of all this.
#1: Tennessee [USA] using the Internet to publish/send "painful" images is illegal
Yes, you didn't get it wrong. As of mid-2011, it is reasonable to "transmit or display images" anywhere on the Internet [yes, possible] "frightening, intimidating or causing emotional distress" is illegal. Yes, anyone, regardless of whether the person concerned is the target of the image. This is the crown of the most ridiculous Internet law ever! According to this law, anyone anywhere in the world can see an image, no matter what the image is portrayed, or whether the uploader has the ulterior motive to publish it. If the image can be traced back to its users, they may face up to one Imprisonment for the year and a fine of more than two thousand dollars.
#2: It is illegal to have an "unregistered" modem in Myanmar.
The Myanmar government attaches great importance to the Internet... so that they have Internet access in the entire country. Internet access is limited by hardware and software limitations, ie unregistered modems. Visitors from abroad may carry a laptop with them, but they must declare it on arrival and can safely cover every mouse click you make while watching.
#3: It is illegal to have more than 56k internet connection in Uxbridge, Ontario!
This is a popular favorite online and can be verified in many places. This is a strange case of serious obsolete laws that are still technically enforceable. It's funny to think of an Internet connection that is faster than dialing is illegal! In these three strange Internet laws, this must win the most ridiculous awards.
These are just the tip of the iceberg; there are many other strange but real Internet laws in books around the world that make many people sit down and wonder what these legislators are writing when they write these laws and bring them into law.
