County property taxes or any other taxes, although unpopular, are an important source of income for county and/or state governments. County property taxes help pay for basic community services.
Every tax authority, whether local or state, is constantly striving to update its county property valuation ratio based on current market value. Their goal is to maintain tax equalization of residential and commercial property located within their tax jurisdiction. Most county governments rely on county property taxes to earn income. Therefore, the property tax levied from the county government to the county government can and does vary greatly.
Perhaps, paying county property taxes is unwelcome because we feel that we have no choice; because we believe that these taxes are imposed on us. However, we have chosen citizens of specific communities in the county. Therefore, we did receive a lot of valuable services in return.
In the county where I live, the ad valorem tax accounts for about 34% of the total income reported by the county.
Although the services provided by the property tax may vary, I get the following benefits from the taxes I pay:
* Police protection and emergency response;
from
* Fire and emergency response;
from
* storm runoff;
from
* 911 emergency services;
from
*Maintain streets, traffic control, sidewalks and curbs;
from
* Remove snow;
from
*Wireless phone;
from
* Emergency Family Assistance and Housing Fund;
from
* Access to low-cost mental health services;
from
*Parks and recreational facilities;
from
* Elderly activities programme;
from
* Central and Neighborhood Library;
from
* Wastewater treatment; last but not least,
from
*Office space and management of these services
How much do you think these services are taken for granted? How many people do you need to provide these services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Everyone has the right to receive his/her fair wages, just like you and me.
