Turtle Aquarium - Simple Cleaning Tips

Turtle aquariums are not difficult to clean, but they do take time. Turtles are messy reptiles - they eat, drink, swim, urinate and defecate in the same water. Ultimately, all these disturbances will lead to dirty water that can cause disease.

To clean the aquarium, you need the following materials:

Move the turtle to another location. You can put it in a box or a boy pool. Make sure the temperature is around 75 degrees. It is also recommended that you keep the turtle nearby so that you can check it from time to time.

Install the plastic siphon on the water vacuum cleaner. If you want to use water for plants, point the other end of the hose to the sink, bathtub or window.

When vacuuming the tank of the turtle aquarium, remove the decorations, accessories and other items from the tank. Clean and rinse them with a toothbrush and white vinegar. If you want to add more decorations, make sure they don't get packed in the water tank. Also, if you take the decorations out, sterilize them before adding them to the tank.

For filters and media, rinse them with water. Make sure there are no dirt, algae or anything else in the filter.

Use a toothbrush and baking soda to scrub the walls, especially hard water. Use paper towels and white vinegar inside the tank. Scrub and wipe the glass thoroughly.

Once the tank is empty, remove the siphon from the vacuum. Rinse the tank again to remove the vinegar and baking soda residue. Time the water before dumping them. This process must be done at least three times. Do not use glass cleaner on the turtle tank as these can cause turtle problems.

If you find that the aquarium is clean enough, you can now add fresh water. Connect the tube to the faucet and fill the tank with water. When the tank is full, you can return the accessories in the aquarium. This is your chance to rearrange or change the layout of the aquarium.

Changing the water in the aquarium once a week can maintain hygienic conditions. In order to keep the water clean, remove any remaining food or debris from the tank every day. Even better, you can move the turtle to a separate sink during feeding so that it doesn't cause too much trouble in your habitat.

Turtle aquariums can be cleaned every 45 days, so you don't have to bother yourself.
